7 Yoga Poses to Align your Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Our Root Chakra is responsible for survival, safety, security, grounding, and life force. To learn more about this chakra, check out my previous post that goes into further detail. This article will give you 7 Yoga poses to help you align your Root Chakra.

1. Mountain Pose

Stand at the top of your mat, feet together or hip width apart. Lengthen your spine as if something is pulling you up from the crown of your head. Arms activated and extended down, palms face forward, fingers are spread.

2. Thunderbolt Pose

From your knees, sit back onto your feet, toes pointed back. Lengthen your spine as if something is pulling you up from the crown of your head. Hands rest on your lap, palms face up, open to what the Universe has to offer.

3. Chair Pose

Start from Mountain pose. Sit back as if you are sitting in a chair. Keep your knees directly over your ankles to protect your knees. Glutes and abdominals are activated. Arms extend up and out, gaze is up and out.

4. Garland Pose

Starting from Forward Fold, Walk feet to edges of mat, allowing the toes to spill off the edge. Lower your hips down, keeping your knees tracking over your toes. Lengthen your spine and bring your hands to prayer position. Elbows press on the inside of your knees and your knees squeeze back onto your elbows.

5. Staff Pose

Start from seated with legs extended out in front of you. Flex your feet and extend your arms down at your sides. Press your palms into the mat and lengthen your spine. Gaze straight ahead.

6. Bridge Pose

Start laying on your back. Bring the soles of your feet to the mat, hips width apart, and walk your heels close to your hips. Slowly lift your hips up to your own edge. Squeeze your shoulder blades together, arms extend down, and clasp your hands together under your hips.

7. Warrior 2

Start from Downward Dog. Step your right foot to the top of the mat. Get your ankle directly under your heel. Windmill your arms up so they extend over each leg. Make sure your front knee is at 90 degrees, your shoulders are stacked directly overtop of your hips, and your arms are activated. Gaze is out over the front middle finger.
